The Precision Metalforming Association said that among companies participating in its February 2024 “Business Conditions Report,” 40% expected an increase in orders in the next three months, while 23% anticipated rising business activity over that span. Both were higher than the previous month’s survey, which saw 34% of companies project higher orders and 20% forecast more business activity.
The number of companies anticipating a drop in orders and business activity over the subsequent 12 weeks, meanwhile, declined from 21% and 20% in January down to 12% and 16%, respectively. The percentage expecting no change in orders slipped from 48% to 45% last month, while the share projecting no change in business remained about the same at 61%.
Average daily shipping levels also saw improvement last month: 31% reported an increase, nearly double the 16% from the previous survey.
